Mark Heinz

The person behind the pitch.

Mark Heinz. Brand, marketing, and web consulting for businesses in the Metro East St. Louis area and beyond. Forty years of building things by hand, including over seven years as the entire marketing department for a three-division company across three states.

"One of the most-fearsome live bands to call greater St. Louis home."

St. Louis Magazine, on Fragile Porcelain Mice

I co-founded the band. Decades later, the same ear for what is working and what is not.

In March 2020, I watched company after company go dark.

I had been there less than two years when COVID hit. The company had three operating divisions and six locations across three states. I was the only person handling all of their marketing. While competitors pulled back, I went the other direction: I created a unified brand that consolidated all three divisions into one identity. The message was simple. We were not three small companies. We were one network of experts across three states, and we were not going anywhere.

I launched two original video series to back it up. One brought in vendors and partners to walk through real solutions for real pain points. The other kept our brand in front of customers with company news, promotions, and updates. Sixty videos over the life of the channel. Produced, hosted, and edited by one person.

We came out stronger than we went in.

We were not going dark.

I had built the unified brand architecture connecting all three divisions from the ground up. Every website, every campaign, every video, every piece of marketing. One person.

Before that, thirteen years running my own multimedia production company. Music, corporate, live events. The same instincts that make a live show work make a brand work: timing, dynamics, knowing when to push and when to let a thing breathe.

Now I bring that same depth to smaller businesses in the Metro East and greater St. Louis area, where one person can make a visible difference in weeks instead of quarters.

I show up with something to react to.

I would rather show you something real than pitch you on a promise.

If I can find you online, I probably already have. By the time we talk, I have a read on your situation. The first conversation is not a discovery call. It is a working session.

When the project is a website, most clients see a working version before they commit to anything. Not a mockup. Something real, with their name on it. When it is a brand question or advisory engagement, the first call itself has real value, whether or not we end up working together.

Some clients need a single project and they are done. Others realize they want ongoing guidance on brand, marketing, and technology decisions. The relationship grows from the work. When a project needs more hands, I bring in people I trust. I never push a retainer on someone who just needed a website.

Forty years of building things that hold together.

I have been building things on computers since the early '80s. Playing drums since before that. I was a founding member of Fragile Porcelain Mice, a band that is still part of St. Louis music conversations decades later. I owned a multimedia production company for thirteen years, where my job description was simple: producer and designer for other people's creative efforts. That is still what I do. The tools changed. The instinct did not.

The common thread is not marketing or music or technology. It is the need to make things work. To take something rough and make it sharp. To hear the mix and know what is missing. To look at a brand and know what is off.

I live and work in Collinsville, Illinois, in the Metro East St. Louis area. Most of my clients are within a short drive. Some are not. Either way, the work is the same: honest, direct, and built to last.
